The Widow Book review *non spoiler*

The Widow
by: Fiona Barton

Short summary:
The Widow is a debut novel by Fiona Barton dealing with a woman named Jean who's husband, Glen is a suspected pedophile and kidnapper of 2 year old Bella.
The story is told in 5 different point of views.

1. The mother of the 2 year old missing child.
2. the alleged pedophile, Glen
3. the widow, Jean
4. a police officer named Bob
and
5. a reporter named Kate

Jean acts like the "perfect wife" and stands by her husband through the accusations and harassments, but when Glen dies by getting hit by a bus, things start to unravel and the secrets that she has kept are surfacing.  The 5 point of views are recollections from the point of the abduction till Glen death.

My thoughts:
I thought this was a stunning debut from Fiona Barton and will happily read more of her books, if she publishes more. I could not put this novel down. I had to know what exactly happened. I highly enjoyed Kate, the reporter and Bob, the police officer, both played big roles in this novel. I think this book would be a fantastic choice for Book Clubs because there is so many points that you can discuss. I would not go into this novel thinking it's going to be the next "Gone Girl" as it's being publicized as, but as it's own twisted, disturbing novel.

Friday Reads/Weekend Reads

Bared to you (Crossfire #1)
By: Sylvia Day
I'm about 1/4 into this book. It has a few similarities to "Fifty Shades of Grey" despite the reputation. Eva moves from San Diego to Manhattan due to a new job and meets Gideon Cross, a very rich and very attractive man. So far I like it, but it's nothing spectacular.

Fire with Fire (Burn for Burn #2)
By: Jenny Han & Siobhan Vivian
Following the events of the first book, Mary, Lillia and Kat are trying to figure what they truly want. I obviously can't say much due to it being Book 2.

 The Heir (The Selection #4)
By: Kiera Cass
I never thought a character could be more annoying than America Singer, Eadlyn, may surprise you. Summarily, you may just end up rooting for her, hoping she gets that happily ever after. Just like Fire with Fire I can't give much of a description due to spoilers.

Book Review *non-spoiler*

Burn For Burn (Burn for Burn #1)
by: Jenny Han & Siobhan Vivian

Short summary:
Burn for Burn is about 3 very different high school girls, Mary, Lillia and Kat. Each girl have been wronged in their own way and even though they are not friends, decide to team up to plot revenge on their enemies. Supernatural elements do appear in this book.

My thoughts:
I was actually surprised how much I ended up enjoying this novel. These girls perspectives were great and highly realistic sounding.  I loved all 3 of the girls and somewhat understood where they were coming from. There was a bit of over dramatized scenes, but of course, they're 17, 18 year old girls, so that's to be expected. The supernatural elements were kind of strange, but pleasant surprise, alongside the story. All in all, I highly enjoyed this book not withholding its more juvenile roots. I recommend this book, more so, if you enjoy drama like gossip girl, withholding, the over reached dramatizations.
